Tokyoふしぎ祭エンス 2026@日本科学未来館 / Tokyo Science Festival 2026@ Miraikan

　今年もお台場の科学未来館で開催されたTokyoふしぎ祭エンスに、アガロースゲル電気泳動でDNA鑑定を行う体験イベントで参加しました。今年で３年連続です。そして、３年連続で日本ジェネティクス様のイルミネーターをお借りして実施することができました。このイルミネーターのスイッチを入れたときが一番盛り上がります。いつもありがとうございます。感謝です。

　昨年は私の海外出張の直後だったため、安田さんと篠﨑さんに主導してもらいましたが、今年はもうやれるだろうと思って、最初から全部２人に主導してもらいました。私は裏方に回りましたが、もう私がいなくてもやってくれそうです。心強い限りです。２人に感謝です。さらに後進の育成も進められそうで、私が前に出て話すのは引退になりそうです。また話したくなったら、１回くらいやらせてもらうかもしれませんが。

　昨年は、完全事前予約制だったため、空席ができてしまったこともあったのですが、今年は空席がある場合は飛び入り参加も認められたので、多くのお子さんに体験してもらえました。イベント自体も進化して、よくなっていると思います。

　DNAは４つの部品からできていて、その並び方が人によって違うところがある。違いが個性になることもあれば、病気の原因となることもある。その違いを、個人を特定するDNA鑑定に利用することもできる、という考えを、少しでも伝えられていたら良いと思います。まあ、そんな難しいことは抜きにして、普段できない体験ができた、というだけでももちろん十分ですが。 　私達、担当者による打ち上げもできて、良いイベントになりました。

This year, we once again participated in the Tokyo Science Festival at the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation (Miraikan) in Odaiba, running a hands-on event where participants performed DNA analysis using agarose gel electrophoresis. This marks our third consecutive year participating. And for the third year in a row, we were able to conduct this event using an Illuminator kindly loaned to us by Nippon Genetics. The moment kids turn on the switch for this Illuminator is always the highlight of the event. Thank you so much. We are truly grateful.

Last year, since it was right after my business trip abroad, Yuga Yasuda and Kayoko Shinozaki took the lead, but this year, thinking they would be able to handle it on their own, I had them lead the entire event from the start. I took a backseat, but it seems they can run it just fine without me. It’s incredibly reassuring. I’m so grateful to both of them. It also looks like we’ll be able to train the next generation for this event, so it seems my days of stepping forward to speak are coming to an end. Though, if I feel like speaking again, I might let them do it just once.

It was a strictly reservation-only event last year, we sometimes ended up with empty seats. This year, however, they allowed walk-ins if there were any openings, so many more children were able to participate. I think the event itself has evolved and improved.

DNA is made up of four components, and the way they’re arranged differs from person to person. These differences can define a person’s individuality, but they can also be the cause of disease. These differences can also be used for DNA testing to identify individuals. I hope we were able to convey, even just a little, these concepts. Well, putting aside such complicated matters, of course, just being able to have an experience they wouldn’t normally get is more than enough.

We were also able to have an after-party with the staff in charge, so it turned out to be a great event.
